National Museum of Toys and Miniatures to open ‘Native Arts in Miniature’ exhibition

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City will open a new exhibition, “Native Arts in Miniature,” on March 28, spotlighting the work of Native American artists creating in small scale.

The exhibition explores a wide range of tribal traditions, family heritage, and contemporary innovation through miniature artworks. Visitors will encounter pieces that reflect both cultural continuity and artistic experimentation, offering an intimate look at how Native artists translate stories, techniques, and identities into miniature form.

To center artists’ perspectives, the exhibition will feature print and video interviews with participating artists discussing their creative processes, materials and inspirations.

On March 27, an opening reception will be held and will include drinks, appetizers, and entertainment, highlighted by a musical performance from Indigenous singer-songwriter Bad Alaskan.

General admission to the opening reception is $12 per person. Members of federally recognized tribes are eligible for free admission. Additional information is available by emailing info@toyandminiaturemuseum.org or calling 816-235-8000.

Registration for the opening reception is available online at the museum’s event page here.
