NUIFC opens call to Indigenous artists for 2026 ‘Democracy Is Indigenous’ campaign

The National Urban Indian Family Coalition (NUIFC) has issued a national call for digital artwork from American Indian and Alaska Native artists as part of its 2026 Democracy Is Indigenous campaign.

Selected artists will compete for a $3,000 prize and receive national exposure through NUIFC’s voter engagement and civic participation efforts. The deadline for submissions is March 1, and artists may submit up to three digital pieces inspired by the campaign’s theme.

Chosen artwork will be featured across NUIFC platforms, including its website, social media channels, printed materials, and will be shared with urban Indian nonprofit organizations nationwide. According to NUIFC, the campaign aims to elevate Indigenous voices while reinforcing the connection between civic engagement, policy, and resources for urban Indian communities.

“Democracy Is Indigenous” is part of NUIFC’s broader investment in urban Indian life across the country. The initiative focuses on building long-term, sustainable civic engagement efforts that extend beyond voter registration and Election Day participation. NUIFC emphasizes year-round organizing, policy advocacy, and accountability for elected officials to ensure promises to Native communities are upheld.

Artwork guidelines and submission details are available through NUIFC’s online portal. High-resolution digital files must be submitted via SurveyMonkey. Artists with questions about the call for submissions can contact Rio Fernandes at Riof@nuifc.org.

More information and submission materials can be found through NUIFC’s Call for Artists announcement. The application is located here.
