Art is the Solution 2025-26

The Santa Fe Arts Commission, in partnership with the Arts & Culture Department, has announced its annual “Art is the Solution” funding program for 2025-26, offering $50,000 in grants to support local creative initiatives.

Five selected arts and culture projects will each receive $10,000 to develop works that engage both residents and visitors of Santa Fe through public exhibitions or events.

This year’s theme, “Cultural Futures,” invites artists to explore how creative expression can address cultural challenges, preserve traditions, and spark innovation. The initiative aligns with Santa Fe’s 20th anniversary as a UNESCO Creative City, celebrating the theme “GENERATION/S: Tradition as Innovation.”

“We’re looking for projects that honor intergenerational craftwork and storytelling while embracing the dynamic relationship between tradition and contemporary expression,” said a spokesperson for the Arts Commission. “This year’s focus is particularly on artistic heritage as a foundation for innovation.”

The commission welcomes applications from practitioners across all artistic disciplines, including traditional crafts, folk art, metalwork, textiles, pottery, murals, lowrider art, culinary arts, performing arts, visual media, and interdisciplinary projects.

Particularly encouraged are collaborations between artists of different generations. The program recognizes that cultural transmission occurs not only through direct family lineage but also through diasporic connections, chosen families, and various cultural affinities.

Potential projects might include public art installations, community workshops, performances, exhibitions, publications, or multimedia works. The city’s Community Gallery may be available as a venue for selected projects, depending on the medium and space requirements.

Applications will be accepted in the coming weeks, with recipients announced later this summer. For more information, contact the Santa Fe Arts & Culture Department.

Artists must reside in Santa Fe county. Learn more and apply here.
