‘Crafted in the Valley’ invites artists to submit works on contemporary Appalachia

A new exhibition highlighting the evolving artistic voices of Appalachia is now accepting entries.

“Crafted in the Valley: Contemporary Voices in Appalachia” will be on view at the Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, Pa., from April 9 through May 22, with an opening reception scheduled for Thursday, April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Artists working in all media are invited to submit work that reflects the culture, traditions, and lived experiences of Appalachia. Organizers are seeking contemporary perspectives that honor tradition and roots while also examining change and redefining what Appalachian identity means today.

The exhibition is open to local, regional, and national artists aged 18 and older. Artists may submit between one and five works for consideration. Applications are due by March 8, with artist notifications expected on March 13. Accepted works must be delivered to the gallery by March 27.

A $5 application fee applies, with paper applications available upon request. The gallery will retain a 40 percent commission on any sales, with 60 percent going to the artist. Participating artists are responsible for all shipping and return shipping costs; mailed submissions must include a prepaid return shipping label.

All submitted artwork must be gallery-ready, fully framed, and prepared for hanging or display.
