The series, supported by Humanities New York and facilitated by artist and writer Brianna Hernández, will feature three conversations about the book on November 9, December 7, and January 4.

Moon of the Crusted Snow, published in 2018, follows a small Anishinaabe community navigating a harsh winter marked by a dwindling supply, leadership struggles, and an unexpected visitor. A group of friends and their families turn to the land and Anishinaabe tradition for hope and to restore order amidst the chaos.

“It’s set in an Anishinaabe community that’s dealing with the impact of being displaced and the effects of colonialism. It’s a dystopia that’s already here,” said Rice in an interview with CBC.

The novel was selected for Canada Reads 2023 longlist and was the winner of the 2019 OLA Forest of Reading Evergreen Award.

Each book club will be available to attend in person, 159 Old Point Road, Southampton, New York, or over Zoom. To RSVP, register for the Zoom, and check for more details, click here.
