Freelance Writers & Photographers

Fry Bread welcomes freelance contributors. We welcome pitches from people seeking to amplify Indigenous artists, musicians, dancers, and more. Please send a clear one‑paragraph pitch: who you are, what the story is, and how it aligns with our focus on uplifting Native art and opportunities. Include any multimedia elements, timeline, and your contact information. Please keep it concise and compelling—we receive many submissions. Digital Editor

This is an early or late career, freelance position.

We seek a Digital Editor who understands that storytelling is transformational; that editing is an artform, and that digital spaces can both connect and uplift. This role is for someone who recognizes the power of art and seeks to support Native and Indigenous artists and allies.

You will work to curate and publish content that uplifts Native and Indigenous artists, support them in finding resources and opportunities, and connect allies with opportunities to learn more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Approximately 15-20 hours of work weekly
  • Edit and publish on frybread.org 5-7 notices, articles, features, and multimedia content each week, centering Indigenous artists and creators
  • Manage our social channels
  • Work in collaboration with freelance writers, photographers, and multimedia producers
  • Fact check and ensure accuracy and respect of cultural protocols
  • Develop editorial practices that honor Indigenous storytelling traditions 
  • Support artists & freelancers & our shared communities

Community Relationship 

  • Work in relationship with Indigenous creators and community leaders in the arts
  • Engage thoughtfully across digital platforms
  • Build audience while maintaining community trust and cultural integrity

Digital Strategy

  • Manage content management system to community needs
  • Coordinate social media strategy that amplifies community voices 
  • Track impact through community feedback and relationship-building, as well as analytics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in art, entertainment, or news media
  • At least 1 year of web editing, digital content management, or media work that demonstrates commitment to Native and Indigenous artists and traditional crafts
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with content management systems and digital publishing tools
  • Understanding of diverse Indigenous communities 
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong relationships with remote team
  • Fluency in English, plus speak at least one other language
  • Multimedia production skills
  • Creative problem solving abilities
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history in the Americas and contemporary issues; Understanding of global colonial histories a plus.
  • Experience with community engagement across diverse communities
  • Work across Indian Country and Indigenous groups of the Americas
  • Understanding of Indigenous art history and traditional crafts, or passion to learn
  • Curiosity
  • Strong desire to help FryBread.org grow as a digital media publication
