Adornment & Identity: Indigenous Stories in Jewelry & Textiles

Join the Women’s Jewelry Association New York Metro Chapter for an evening of fresh perspectives on fashion, representation and storytelling through jewelry and textiles at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian on May 21st.
A panel of award-winning Indigenous jewelry and textile designers will be presenting: Naiomi Glasses (Diné), Tyler Glasses, and Omar Monroy (Oaxaqueña) of El Techichi Jewelry.
These artists have created for fashion brands and movie stars including Ralph Lauren, Gabriela Hearst, and Lily Gladstone.
Moderated by Tchesmeni Leonard, Senior Fashion Editor at Allure | Glamour | Teen Vogue | SELF, the program will explore the history, heritage, and traditions that shape the artists’ work, highlighting how Indigenous jewelry and textiles serve both as a means of preservation and a platform for artistic evolution.
