‘Journeys in Spirit 2026’ showcases Native art at Arizona gallery

The ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery in Prescott will host the annual “Journeys in Spirit 2026: Traditional and Contemporary Native Art” exhibition from May 13 through June 23, 2026, bringing together a dynamic collection of Native American artwork in partnership with the Museum of Indigenous People.
Having grown into a highly anticipated annual event, “Journeys in Spirit” highlights the depth and diversity of Native artistic traditions while spotlighting contemporary innovation. The exhibition features a wide range of works, including paintings, basketry, jewelry, photography, beadwork and ceramics, created by artists representing tribal nations such as Hopi, Cherokee, Diné (Navajo), Yaqui, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek and Yavapai, among others.
Organizers say the exhibition aims to honor both cultural continuity and creative evolution. Many participating artists live within their tribal communities, while others reside elsewhere but remain deeply connected to their heritage. Each piece on display reflects personal narratives shaped by identity, land and tradition.
Art has long served as a cornerstone of Native cultures — functioning as storytelling, ceremony, cultural preservation and contemporary expression. “Journeys in Spirit 2026” offers visitors an opportunity not only to view the artwork but also to engage directly with artists and learn about the cultural meanings embedded in their work.
An artist reception will be held during Prescott’s 4th Friday Art Walk on May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m., giving attendees the chance to meet several of the featured artists and discuss their creative processes.
Beyond its visual impact, the exhibition supports Native artists by creating economic opportunities and expanding public understanding of Indigenous cultures. Organizers describe the event as more than an art show — it is an immersive cultural experience designed to foster appreciation, dialogue and respect.
“Journeys in Spirit 2026” is open to the public during regular gallery hours at ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery.
