Vancouver gallery exhibit ruminates on the Pacific Ocean

“We who have known tides: Indigenous Art from the Collection” is now on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery in British Columbia.
Described as a a poetic inquiry that seeks to understand what it means to exist at the edges of the Pacific Ocean. “We who have known tides” examines how the ocean and living in proximity to it has shaped the work of Indigenous artists, as well as their relation to territories across land and water, and their connections to communities that have witnessed the tides change for thousands of years.
Drawn predominantly from the Vancouver Art Gallery’s permanent collection, this exhibition asks patrons to consider where they are on a deeper level, and to look to the ocean as a way of understanding how the world is evolving.
“We who have known tides” is organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Camille Georgeson-Usher, Audain Senior Curatorial Advisor on Indigenous Art.
The exhibition runs from November 6, 2025-April 12, 2026. Find out more by clicking here.
