Watch: Singing Back the Buffalo

The Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum is hosting a watch party of Singing Back the Buffalo in celebration of Earth Day. Following the screening will be a post-discussion with Director Dr. Tasha Hubbard (Cree).

The film discusses buffalo’s connection to humanity and how their return to the Great Plains can bring in a new era.

“In a time of immense environmental degradation and global uncertainty, the buffalo can lead us to a better tomorrow… aided by dedicated Indigenous activists, leaders and communities, including award-winning Cree filmmaker Tasha Hubbard (nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up). Together with Blackfoot Elder Leroy Little Bear, Hubbard weaves an intimate story of humanity’s connections to buffalo and eloquently reveals how their return to the Great Plains can indeed usher in a new era of sustainability and balance.”

The film can be viewed virtually from April 18 through May 2, 2025, or in person on April 25, 2025, at the Museum in Evanston, Illinois, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Virtual viewers can also participate in the post-screening discussion with Dr. Hubbard on April 25, 2025.
